How Lighting Can Impact Your Rental with Hudson Valley Lighting

When it comes to short term rental spaces, I’m all about creating a high impact, without overdoing it. And I personally think lighting is the best way to do that because even small changes to lighting - like changing a table lamp or swapping out an ugly chandelier - can have a HUGE and memorable impact on a space. It can not only change the only change the look, but also the entire mood of a room.

It’s an especially great option for short term rentals. Most landlords or apartment complexes will let you switch out fixtures as long as you put it back up before you move out. That way you can not only transform the space you live in now, but also take that investment with you when you move out! Huge win-win!

One of my favorite spots for lighting is Hudson Valley Lighting. They are my go-to spot when I’m looking for unique lighting options. They have a huge variety of items - perfect for whatever vibe you’re looking for. I also found some great pieces for this rental from One Kings Lane - another great online retailer I love!

This is one room that I redid recently. It used to have ugly, small glass pendants for lighting over the island. By adding the cone-shaped pendant in the lighter color made an immediate difference! Take a look at the rest of this room reveal for some inspiration on how you can transform your own rental with a few easy lighting tweaks!

Guest Bedroom

One of my favorite rooms to make an impact in is the guest bedroom. I want a beautiful space that visitors will feel comfortable staying in, but also remember and want to come back to!

For the guest bedroom, I chose this Bertram 26 Inch Table Lamp from Hudson Valley Lighting. I wanted guests to feel comfortable and relaxed - almost like being in a spa. The texture of the base makes it super interesting, but I chose the white color to keep the room bright, light and airy.

Dining Room

One of my favorite pieces from this whole apartment is the dining room chandelier. I went with the Dillon 30 Inch 9 Light Chandelier from Hudson Valley Lighting. The aged brass finish is super classic, but the linen shades and thin shape make it more modern and clean. It’s the type of light I can see transitioning easily from this place to the next because it is so effortless and simple.

The open living space presented a tricky lighting challenge because I wanted to introduce some unique pieces, but also have them tie together. One way I did that was by choosing similar elements, like brass, that wove throughout. For example, the brass lights over the kitchen island tie into the brass dining chandelier (which I love!) without being too matchy-matchy. It also ties into the beautiful picture light I picked out - the Woodbury 30 Inch Picture and Display Light from Hudson Valley Lighting - which is also in brass.

Living Room

I cannot tell you how much I loved this chandelier. Sticking with the brass theme, I picked out this Martyn Lawrence Bullard Hopper 32 Inch 9 Light Chandelier from Hudson Valley Lighting. This one is more of an antique brass, with opal white glass. That makes it a little different than the other brass pieces I picked out, but still sticking within the same theme to keep the space cohesive.

Take a look at how this space all flows together. I love how

I tied more of those brass accents into other areas of the living room, like with the coffee table, side table lamps, and even a small bowl on the table. Then, I balanced it out with neutral and natural accents, like the black leather pillows or vibrant green plans on the island and coffee table.

Master Bedroom

Table lamps are a great way to spruce up a bedroom. They can be super interesting, and they’re also super practical (anyone else stay up too late reading every night?). I loved these Brentwood Marble Table Lamps for this space. It ties in some of the lux gold and brass accents throughout the home, but also has a natural, calming vibe with the white marble for the bedroom. Each of these lamps is also crafted one at a time by hand, which means each lamp is entirely unique.

Here’s how it looks when you look at the whole room. I love how the lamps don’t stand out too much on their own - complementing the space perfectly. But when you get up close you see those amazing white marble and golf leaf details.
