A Very Tiny Beach Shack: The Reveal!

Today’s Home Crush is one of our very own REVEALS! Yay! I have been waiting to share this one with y’all. It’s sooo good. I am so thrilled with how our family’s tiny little beach shack in Huntington Beach, CA transformed. This has been such a fun project to work on and I am even more happy with how amazing this space turned out! This home turned out exactly how it should be, light, airy, relaxing and the perfect getaway by the sea. My family loves a good beach va-K and decided to get a place of our own and make it something refreshing and bright! This transformation wouldn’t have been possible without the help of so many amazing brands. Once again, we have partnered with our favorites to help bring this space to life! I’m so excited to bring y’all through the whole process from concepts, the renderings, to the final reveal! Here’s a little sneak peak of our very tiny beach shack. Don’t you just love it? I know we do!

To begin, here are some photos of what we started with. This tiny 320 square foot beach shack needed quite the glow up! I wasn’t kidding when I said this place was TINY. The before of this space was dark and dated. The poor lighting, dark colors and clutter of furniture really made this place seems a lot smaller than it is. It definitely did not feel like it belonged by the beach, that’s for sure. We needed to keep the kitchen area the same, but freshen it up a bit. We knew we needed to upgrade from a queen to a king to make for a more comfortable sleeping, remove the giant desk, and get all new lighting for the room.. We needed to make this space functional, inviting and spacious and most of all- BRIGHT!

Did someone say Bachelor Pad? That’s exactly what this space was before. My uncle John was stuck with the look he’d have for over 10 years, and was ready for a change! He was living in a space that was clean, but dated and boring. It was time for a CHANGE! I brought in the big guns and started drawing up some plans and concepts for the room’s facelift. We ditched the jewel tone bachelor pad color palette and transformed it into a island paradise scene. Let’s talk more about that process:

As you know, I like to start the design phase with concepts and the build out the renderings from there. In keeping with the California vibes of Huntington Beach, our goal was to brighten this place up and bring in the beach-bungalow aesthetic! After all, when you come to the beach you want your home to reflect that, too. The answer for this was to bring in a neutral color palette with lots of light colors and natural tones. We decided to keep the surfboard and build around that by bringing in elements that mimicked aspects of the beach. We chose to use Simply White by Benjamin Moore throughout the space to really lighten up the room. This is my GO-TO white for all my room. This also added a nice contrast with the pre-existing wood floors- total score. New paint is one of the cheapest changes, yet it leaves such a large impact on the space! The simple cosmetic changes make all the difference. That alone would have been amazing.

Once we had our base done, it was time to bring in all the right lighting! Thanks from the help of our sponsor Hudson Valley Lighting, we were able to get all the perfect fixtures we needed for this beach shack! We chose a brass finish for almost everything to tie all the fixtures together and create a cohesive look for the whole place. Aren’t all of these fixtures so fabulous? I’m obsessed! Hudson Valley Lighting is one of my go to places for light fixtures. They have the biggest variety of style, look, and price point for sure. All of their products are beautiful and great quality- I can’t say enough fabulous things.

Okay now I know you are probably wanting to see more of this cute little living space! We switched the space up by adding a sleeper sofa instead of a sectional like before- this one is from IKEA out of all places. This way, it takes up less space and there is room to accommodate more guests. The best of both worlds! It’s actually pretty easy to pull in and out, too! Also, how cute are these ottomans? They are the perfect substitute for a coffee table when having to deal with pulling out the sofa bed. We just stack them up when the bed is out. It makes for an easy and lightweight transition. They’re so functional, too and they take up minimal space! This is my Uncles favorite part of the whole room. Haha! Everything from the furniture in this room to lighting all tie in perfectly with this gorgeous rug from Jaipur Living. It’s indoor/outdoor too which is a complete must for a spot on the beach. We’re constantly coming in and out of here tracking in sand, dirt, and everything inbetween, so a performance rug was absolutely necessary. We went with an 8’ x 10’ rug in the living area and a small 2’ x 3.5’ rug by the kitchen sink. Both of them fabulous and functional.

Everything came together perfectly in this space! The colors and textures brought together in this space make it so relaxing and inviting! The lifeguard tower print hanging above the bed from the BFF Print Shop gives the perfect beachy touch to the room! We used the IKEA BJORKSA frame in 54”x40”. The paper BFF print shop uses for their prints is magical and doesn’t crease or rip when assembling it onto this glass-less frame. It’s amazing and SO easy. Don’t you just want to climb right into bed? Thanks to Brooklinen, we have the softest sheets and duvet cover on this bed. I am absolutely in love with them. They’re so soft, cozy, and best of all- affordable! This bedroom is so simple, but showcases so much through the little details and finishing touches!
